Is his hideout a sutible size for it, and have you fed it yet?
From what I was told from others is that his hide out is ok , here is a photo, also I have tried to find him but haven’t seen him actually eat, I put 1 peppermint shrimp ( very small one) in his tank today and With in 5 min of me walking in and out of the room it seemed to be gone

I’m noticing as well when he’s not glass surfing he’ll just keep sticking his head out of his hiding place till he starts up again

He still looks small. You may have to give him some small cuts of fish or shrimp right in front of his face to get him to eat. Also as he grows he will need more hiding spaces. Mine started at 8” 1 1/2 yrs ago and is now 2 foot of rock moving power. He has made tunnels under all my rock and eats 5-6 pinky size shrimp or silversides every 2 days.

Peppermint shrimp are amazing at hiding .
I never see mine until after lights are out .
Try feeding it raw seafood .
He will love it !

Sticking his head out of the rockwork and swimming around usually means mine is hungry. Try to train it to eat near its cave as it is a good habit to get your eel into.

It's probably hungry.

It make take live ghost shrimp to get it eating at first, unless it was already eating at the store.

I was reading that but it got me a little confused Bc isn’t ghost shrimp fresh water shrimp ?

Some are, yes. They can live in brackish or saltwater for a while. They will be with the feeder fish at fish stores.

The point is to get the eel eating, and to recognize you as a food source.

My zebra always comes out of his cave when hes hungry. If i miss a feeding he definitely lets me know. Try offering him small pieces of raw shrimp that you would buy from the grocery store
