Silly starfish question

Will a starfish die and disappear in a sump in 4 days.i went on vacation sunday.fed him and he was eating when I left. Come home today and he is gone.im thinking he crawled out but cant find him anywhere

What type of starfish are we talking about?

Chocolate chip about 4 to 5 inches in diameter

I've heard of them climbing out but it is not typical behavior. Maybe it's hiding in the sand?

I found him.he was actually on the back of the skimmer and couldn't see him.i never pulled it out cause it is tough to get back in.hes alive and well
