I made a simple light shade today to help reduce algae growth at the screens slot. My spray bar is made from 25mm pipe so I used 40mm ABS pipe cut to length then cut a 6mm slot along it's full length (i used a plunge saw for this) I then replaced the medium sized tie wraps with smaller ones and used the nodule ends where the end of the tie wraps feed into as spacers to make sure one side of the light shield dose not touch the screen. The first 10mm of the screen is now shaded by the light shade. Simple cheap and quite easy to do.

I did a mod to my light shield mod. I drilled two small holes in the light shade pipe and after making sure the slot was centralised to the screen drilled trough them into the spray bar pipe. The holes were made just the right size to push (not screw) 2 small plastic bolts through. This ensures that when I refit the screen and light shield the slot in it is perfectly aligned so one side does not lean over and touch the screen which might cause water distribution and channelling.

Well it's still early days and I am still growing very dark algae and slime. Once I get GHA (hopefully) then I will be in a better position to evaluate it.

oh yes the slime stage...I wounder if the lights are powerful enough. from the vids. I have seen they seam to be. also wondering how far the LEDs are from the screen? and if salt creep on the clear acrylic will take away the par or pur value? guess one always can ad more LEDs if need be. thanks for the link I email them.
I was just thinking about building one...

I was thinking of adding more lights but need to get passed then first stage. I was assured the lights provided will grow GHA well.
BTW I have done 4 videos on it to date in my YouTube channel (sezles1) I suspect you may have watched them
