Skim heavy no filter socks

What is everyone's opinion on using a large skimmer on with no filter socks in the sump as I think the filter socks are a big nitrate factory

I still use a sock once in a while for a day. Manly if I move stuff around.

Well how does the tank do without them on the regular

Gtg! No issues. I do vacuum my sump sometimes.

Another question do you not have small particles floating around the display that the filter socks would normally remove

Yah. Alot of times I throw a sock in and syphon my sand bed into a sock. When I'm done I do the wc by vacuuming out my sump. pull the skimmer and rinse. Kinda works nice.

I never notice anything odd. Seems like alot people are going the sock less route.

I don't have any big colonies yet but there 14 sps frags and 12 acans. All doing great.

I've love my filter socks, feel like it keeps the tank cleaner, I change them out about every 4-5 days though to prevent a nitrate factory situation

I change mine at least that much and still seems like it could be better

I used them all the time for the first 6 months. I just got tired of dealing with them so I don't anymore. My tank has gotten nothing but better. Idk if that affected anything but it didn't hurt.
