Skimmer bubble plate

I have SWC 120 skimmer that the bubble plate broke off. Is it necessary to use the bubble plate?

I wouldn't think they are necessary. They are designed to reduce turbulence in the skimmer body. I think it will be fine until its replaced however I do not use cone skimmers..
