How often does your Venturi get clogged with salt? Seems like mine can't go three weeks without being cleaned or it will overflow is this normal?

I just cleaned mine for the forst time in like 5 months and it always seems like it takes a week or two to break in again.

On the same topic, but a different question. When you empty your collection cup do you just empty it out or do you clean it? Is it better to leave the grunge in the neck?

I check the lines everytime I clean the skimmer. Its normal for it to clog up from time to time.

I check mine weekly at a minimum and keep a small drill bit the perfect size to ream the venturi air hole out in my stand. I clean the air hole, blow through the tube, empty and rinse the collection cup and do a quick brush of the skimmer neck at the same time out of habit.

I have had my Lifereef protein skimmer for over 12 years. The venturi has never clogged, due to the design of bringing moisture in from the collection cup to keep the venturi clean.

First skimmer mod for me
Mod the Venturi if it seems clog prone I drill out find a piece of appropriate pipe say 1/4" inside dia glue in place
I also drill out hole in skimmer lid to accept airline so it draws moist air

Her is photo of mod I used a piece of r/o tubing it also is quieter
