Hey all, after being out of the reef hobby for about a decade (used to be active on Reef Central when that was a thing ha), I'm wanting to start a new system, probably in the 100g range. This tank will be in my office and I'd like it QUIET. Piecing together equipment, and I managed to snag an Omega Vertex 150 body from a local shop for free, it's in really good shape. I initially thought I'd throw a Sicce PSK 600 or 1000 pump on it and call it a day, but now I'm seeing all the hype around DC pumps. I'm not too interested in variable flow control, although I'm sure that'll be nice for tuning. But the quiet operation sounds super attractive. That led me to finding the Sicce PSK SDC 1200 pump ($300), which I think would pair nicely with the Vertex 150 body?

After further research, I came across the Simplicity 240DC skimmer ($280) which seems to get fairly good reviews. Maybe I should save myself the hassle and just buy a whole new skimmer?

Seeking feedback and opinions, thank you!

you might want to read up on algae turf scrubbers (I have a santa monica surf4). Just a different option, you just have to be careful on the air pump you buy to make sure it is quiet.

Reason IMO: I would not want to clean a skimmer in an office environment.
