Skimmer question

I have an aquamaxx cone S Q3 and it bubbles Like crazy, but there very very small bubbles and not really pulling the big stuff up, my skim isn't really dark either, how can I fix this? Pull it out of the water a little more?

How much water is is in?

It's set at 9 inches

Depending on the manufacture's recommendations, that may be alittle deep. I have my reef octupus skimmer in 7 1/2 inches.
