Skimmer set and forget

Does anyone have a skimmer they set and forget about ?? I'm tired of tuning my quantum nyos daily. It's the last piece of equipment that requires way too much attention. It's roughly 100 gallons overall

Iv always had real good luck with reef octopus skimmers, the ones iv had I hardly adjusted once they were set

Yea man I ran a classic 150-INT on my 90 gallon for years without any issues. Only reason it went down was because where the cable entered the pump housing the insultation started splitting about 5-6 years in. Outside of that it worked perfect for my system

Tell her everything will die without it, and somehow make your current skimmer not work when you show her lol

The Red Sea is about as close as you can get to that I think. Mine has two probes, one that monitors water level in the body (and adjusts the DC pump to keep it at that level) and also one that monitors skimmate collection in the cup.

But how often are you cleaning that all? I want like old school as least tech as possible. I feel like that would just require additional cleaning of probes and all

Im the same way, I prefer some old school methods and more hands on. Plus I stopped supporting red sea after all their tank disasters and they could give 2 less how it affects so many reefers.

But im sure they are great skimmers, I havent heard or seen anyone talking bad about them

I'm all in on red sea currently, but nervous about leaks

I hope for the best! When searching for my new system I stayed clear of red sea. Last thing I want is to wake up and have to rush to empty a tank.

It doesn't really require anymore cleaning than any other skimmer. Has a neck cleaner built in and a drain hose. I think I actually do less maintenance than I did with my NYOS. The probes just pop out and can be brushed off with a toothbrush. There is definitely more tech though........which can be good and bad lol.

I'm sold on the 110 int. Have to decide new or used now. Used is easier to get the wife on board, but I may just want new on this equipment. I definitely can get some money for my nyos

I've got an inexpensive Ice Cap skimmer. I think I may have adjusted it twice in the past year and a half.

My first skimmer ever was a coral vue. It was garabge. Then I scrapped up money to a Reef Octopus (which used to be a decent skimmer back in the day). I still have that skimmer over ten years later.
Sometimes I think about getting a newer, modern skimmer but why change it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

As I stated, I have the classic 150-INT. I did at one point have a 150sss (space saver) I thought that since it was more money, took up a smaller foot print, and the same brand, it would be better. It didn't work as well. I went back to the Classic after 4 months

Coral vue used to have a few good pieces of equipment back when I started but of course what other choices did we really have? Lol

But your right i was thinking about a DC skimmer for my new build then went back to your through process. Why change? That skimmer paid for itself over and over again

Been using a Bubble Magus Curve 5 Elite and it is definitely a set it and forget it skimmer. No tuning required set it to max and a water line of about 8-9 inches and it's going to work. Also Have a Reef Octopus Elite 150 and I'm constantly messing with it in order to produce skim.
