I am thinking about setting up a small frag/prop system. here's what I would start with

10g tank
20" T5 fixture
a few pieces of LR from my display that are in the sump.
5g of display water
5g of fresh SW
a prodibio vial
a small power head and heater
maybe a small fluval for 10g tanks, with a sponge filter thats disposable.

this will be for zoas and palys, maybe some LPS, no sand, just eggcrate with the LR on the bottom. no fish, just coral frags.

what do you think? i may add a small skimmer later, like an tunze 9005 that can go in tank, if needed.

Is there any way you can tie it into the main system remotely? You will have MUCH better results, and once its setup, its completely effortless.

Makes life so much easier, not having to worry about all the aspects of a second tank.

given the small water volume, if setup independently, it would mean a lot of work to keep water quality up.

FWIW, i would go with a 20 breeder, and go with a 24" light.

youll run out of room in about 5 minutes in a 10 gallon. Even LPS with its sweepers would be an issue pretty quick.

who makes bulbs that small though? really limiting the selection of bulbs.

I'm guessing Current, but I'll find out in a few weeks as I want to change out some of the white bulbs for actinic bulbs and will be able to see the packaging for them. The light is a whole lot better than the PC's that come on a nano tank.

yeah it's a current fixture. were the current display tank is located, I can't tie it in. when I setup up my 450g in wall in my basement, (in 5 years) I will have a 10x10 mech room, and plan on a large shallow prop system. this is just to goof around and get familar with the process. The spot this will go on my counter in my current mech room will only allow for a 10g. I would love a 40 breeder, but it's to big.

here's what I have so far for this project.

10g tank
a sheet of eggcrate
heater
minijet 4 (swaping it out for a korallia nano)
a Current Nova pro Extreme T5 fixture (6x18w)
Tunze 9002 nano Skimmer

I am planning to connect my RKE to a PC4 and an SL1 so I can control the lights, temp, heater, and PH on the prop system. then I plan on adding an MLC and some lunar's to the prop tank. I love my RKE
