I don't know if any snail is effective but I do see emerald crab get rid of all hair algae in my tank if you are flexible about the cleaning crew.

Depends a bit on the type and location of the algae but I have seen results with ceriths, nerites, and trochus snails

Tectus fenestratus is particularly good at clearing algae if you can find them

I haven't been able to find any Tectus snails so far this year. The other snails I listed can be found at basically any LFS. Pitho crabs are slightly less common but still pretty easy to find

Barrier Reef Aquariums and Reef Cleaners are two that I have first-hand experience with

I would recommend looking into lfs first. They are cheap and no quality difference as long as they are active and alive, not worth spending overnight shipping on crabs imo. But if you really cannot find any locally, I bought some from TIA previously, and they are all alive when shipped to me

trochus snails have been really great for me. They don't eat the long ones but will definitely prevent the new ones to going out of control. So you'll have to remove the big ones by yourself while trochus takes care of the leftovers.
