Hello fellow reefers! I'm snakpak. I've been in the reefing hobby for a little over a decade, with a couple hiatuses thrown in due to life just getting busy. I've mostly done nano tanks and was quite active on nano-reef.com.
Earlier this year I got the itch again and bought myself a ReefCasa 6g desktop pico. That tank has had it's ups and downs and for most of the last half of the year I've done nothing but battle dino's. Even broke the tank down, scrubbed all the rock and restarted, only for them to come back.
I was considering an upgrade to a larger tank this coming year, particularly because my daughters keep begging to get more fish. By chance, I stumbled upon an amazing marketplace deal for a brand new JBJ 45g AIO that I thought was too good to be true. I picked up the tank and stand, which had some minor build issues, the day after messaging the seller and brought it all home.
After a careful rebuild of the stand, which I have to thank X-37B & Fish Fan for their advice, I got the tank setup for a water test this evening. To say I was nervous would be an understatement, lol. But, so far all is well!
Here's the tank as she sits this evening:
I'll be placing an order with TBS for their "The Package" for a total of about 30lbs of live rock and 29lbs of live sand. Given my experience starting the ReefCasa with dry rock and how much I've struggled with dino's, I want to start this tank the right way. It will also be a lot more fun for my kids to see all the wonderful little hitchhikers that will come in with it.
Once I have that shipment here and things are in the clear, I'll begin the transfer of my ReefCasa. Though I think I'll skip transferring the rock over.
