i would put live gold fish in and this would give him the thrill of the hunt !!! funny how it knew the gold fish was in distress and he would eat it but he would not bother with the normal residents of the tank of the same size !
it did die from jumping out of the tank so yes make sure to keep it coverd!

All of these stories of jumping and getting mutilated by power heads scare me! I need to get a screen top. Currently I have 4 inch glass overhangs on the inside.

Thanks to all with the feeding recommendations.

I hsd a snowflake in my reef tank. Was fine for a while but started digging up sleeping wrasses to eat. It would also knock down and push sround every frag in my tank.

they do dig under the rocks. very easy to catch though. just use your tongs to feed and when it comes out lead it to the top of the water then scoop up with a net. thats how i got mine out and now it lives in the sump.

Had one many years ago and he was awesome. Never bothered too much with other inhabitants, but like said, they're pretty much blind and if left hungry you're bound to lose a few inverts or sm fish. I hand fed every 2-3 day, very docile, but got me a few times in the hand feeding process. establish a nice cave area for the eel to take as his own and most other things will give it its space. that guy was hardy got so big i had to sell him off.
