Hello I'd like to gauge opinions on where the sweet spot is for soft coral dominated tanks. Currently sitting at 33.0-33.6 salinity consistently with 15 no3 and .7 po4.

Salinity is a little low, 34-35 would be better.

My softies have survived much higher nitrates and phosphates than that. Ideal is somewhat personal choice, 10-20 nitrates and .1-.3 phosphates is where I land on that question.

So I would work on lowering phos, but there are a lot of dirty tanks that do just fine even with that level.

I agree with Bryan, I would run any coral tank, even softies, at 35 ppt. I do think it's "ok" to run some hardy softies at lower salinities, but for the average reefer, I'd ask why? The savings in salt is insignificant for home hobbyists, unless this is a large, fish-only tank with just a few softies here and there. If you would like to keep a coral tank, shoot for 35 ppt would be my suggestion 🙂

Good luck!

I did not realize you were keeping cat sharks. I think that @Jay Hemdal and @vetteguy53081would be best to guide you here 🙂

Best of luck!
Haha no thank you I have kept the coral catsharks happily and healthily for years now. Only questions I have are the ones posted.
