It may be subsiding for now, but the damage is done in a lot of places that still haven't recovered from last year. With bleaching events happening faster, longer, and more often we're going to continue seeing reef deaths. Remember that temps swinging high also mean it drops too, which also causes stress. Sorry to be morbid, but that's the way it works.

Your right, the biodiversity of reefs will fall to the point until only the hardiest corals live. Im sure there are species that can weather these events but they are too few.
