what's the purpose of the mashed potatoes?

It helps having constructive things for them to do to get that energy out, they learn and get a sense of accomplishment, confidence and health/nutrition.
Also wondering about the mashed potatoes...moisture? texture?

bread update. i have had a load pan for decades that i wanted to put to use (other than to shape my killa meatlaof). I made a whole wheat with KA ww and molasses. my son liked it, i thought it was a little dense - i could tell before i even put it i the oven that i rushed the rise. i then made an every day bread with 3:1 KA bread and whole wheat. really nice bread for everyday sandwiches

then i decided to see if i could pull off the sour dough without the dutch oven and use the load pan. winner

i sill did the slow rise in a cold oven with a pan of boiling water, but i also misted the oven at during the bake and kept the pan of water in the oven for the first half to help with steam. the result was a sour dough in every sense of the word but better shaped for sandwiches.

i may never buy bread again pics to come

meanwhile the kicthen aid ice cream attachment arrived and my son and I made vanilla choc chop ice cream. the diet is on shaky ground right now

made an italian herb bread using the recipe on the back of the KA recipe but doubles the herbs . This is a winner

Ahhhh... I miss baking fresh bread too!!! Haven't done it in a while... I had the Sour Dough Culture growing in my refrigerator too!!

Nothing better than a fresh hot slice of bread with butter and my favorite Peanut Butter spread on top !!!

Linked over to this thread from the new sourdough thread, I'm definitely going to give some of these a try. Our go-to at home is a basic bread recipe where we sub out about 1/3 - 1/2 of the flour for spent grain flour. We make the spent grain flour by dehydrating grain after a beer brew, then grinding it up into a fine powder. We try to make at least one loaf for each batch of beer we brew and each one has its own unique flavor. If you happen to be brewers as well, give that a try!
