Source of coralline algae uk

Hi all,

Didn’t know the best place to post this.
I have a system that’s about a year and a half old. Started with dry rock and dry sand ( never again) it’s been an uphill struggle to get over lots of weirdness.

As it’s all dry I have no coralline what so ever. I know in the US there are bottles of spore that you can add. I have not seen anything like that in the UK. Is there anything I can do to introduce it to the tank ?

Put some in a bottle from lfs or another tank

You can get it from a frag/frag plug that has coralline algae on it.

When picking your cuc pick the snails and crabs that have coralline on their shells. All of the above options are great as well.

If you have an LFS ask them if they have a small piece of rock you can buy with Coralline on it. In the US they will sell it by the lb as seed rock (I assume it would be by the KG over there ;))

I started with dry rock also . If conditions are right coralline will grow. . Best source to seed tank with it would be frag plugs /snails with visable coralline growth I would not bother with a "bottle of coralline" ..

I've never added coraline. I don't know why but some tanks don't grow coraline well. Both of these tanks were dry rock barebottom start ups with live rock in the sump. This one has no coraline.

While this one has a lot. In addition to the lighter coraline on the back I've read the darker stuff on the rocks is a form of coraline also.

I wouldn't waste the money buying spores. As mentioned just add some snails or frag plugs with some on them or ask a lfs to scrape some off for you.

Get a small piece of live rock that you can't see any pests on that has the most Coraline algae. After a few weeks it started to slowly spread in my tank.
