Has anyone experienced sps irritation then a few day later burnt tips? I generally find them irritated in the morning and goes away once lights come on. I was having similar problems in my previous tank which led me to start again with all new equipment as nothing was showing on ICP tests and lost everything 1 by 1. New tank is nearly 12 months and now starting to get similar problems. About the only I haven’t changed is salt I’ve been using Tropic Marin Pro Reef. In Australia we have only had German made.
Alk 7.8-8
Calc 420-450
Mag 1380
NO3 1.9
PO4 0.09

Sorry I really can’t help with that. So I’m bumping this. Good luck.

This was just before I shut the old tank down was the last remaining coral. Same coral as in my profile pic.

Nothing wrong with your numbers, but you know that already.
Wow, that pic of your colony sliming up is pretty scary though. Something fundamental is really amiss there. Double checked refractometer and temp gauges already?

Yes I’m using Apex to monitor including Trident. Salinity probe died 12 months ago so using the Hanna which I calibrate every couple months. I do cross check with refractometer and they read the same. I found moisture in 1 of my heaters a couple weeks ago so binned them and added a schego.

Sounds like you think it is happening overnight prior to the lights coming on so maybe a PH drop?

Have you done an ICP recently? If so, could you post them up? I had something similar happen recently and want to compare ICP with another to see. I think I have an idea on why mine happened but don't want to really give out assumptions until I see another ICP result.

Here is some from past year the third is from my previous tank.

Your levels look good. We both have 0 levels of Iodine though. I think mine was related to other issues as well as high Potassium and low levels of trace metals. I was using Reef Crystals. What salt were you using?
I’ve been using Tropic Marin Pro Reef

The German one or the Turkey one? It will say on the bucket.

Some pretty prominent reefers reported real problems with the Turkey salt. I don't have personal experience.
The Australian distributor released a statement that they have only ever received from Germany and it does say Germany on my buckets. I’m considering changing salt as it’s about the only thing I haven’t changed between the 2 tanks.

I was just putting it out there as I don't have a strong opinion on the Turkey salt.

Keep changes to a min and watch. Best I got.

Have you considered pH swings? How are you dosing Alk.?

I have a tank afflicted by this. Coral growth tips pale followed by slow loss of tissue over weeks with eventual death. ICP negative for anything grossly abnormal. Also used Tropic Marin German salt and Reef Crystals

My take on this is either I have low grade bacterial infection killing corals or there is an organic contaminant that does not show up on ICP. If I move affected corals to the other tank in the same room, ~50% recover and return to normal vitality. The other tank has been using the exact same salt as the affected tank.

Anything nearby that could be stinging them? Some LPS can have much longer sweepers than seems possible.

I’ve had this happen in past tanks and still do have it happen in my new tank. It’s typically related to water changes or other changes in water chemistry I’ve noticed
