Squirting clam!

I've had a good look through the forum & can't find anything on this oddity.
My new maxima clam is up high on a rack which it's well attached to.
Mantle fully open, no gaping & receiving fairly hefty flow from powerhead.
All signs seem to be that it's happy but...it squirts water 2-4 times a day which exits the tank.
I've not come across this before!
Anyone have any experience of this?

maybe your clam is too high? Both my clams get exposed during water changes, and they both spit, they can spit up to 8'-10' away. There is a lot of force when they expel water, and if the clam is too close to the surface, I would believe its possible it can breach the surface.

I had an OR3 bar mysteriously stop working after only 2 years, I now believe it might have been caused by the clam spitting.

I have no proof, but I also think they can hear and aim, I've been hit in the face too many times for it to be a coincidence lol

I'm thinking it was too much flow from powerhead.ive just installed orphek atlantiks & they are surprisingly punchy so I can move him down a little.the power of these creatures is impressive! he spat out of tank and hit my wife who was watching television on adjacent sofa :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Too funny.

A recreational scuba diver from Tampa Bay told me that he observed bay scallops jetting across the sand in herds. However, getting squirted while watching tv suggest that clam may be sentient and wanted attention.

Could just be its personality. I've seen clams in the wild that "spray". Pretty impressive really.

But in all seriousness, I have no idea if it has anything to do with the clams overall health.

I do have some concerns with the colour of this maxima as he was fairly brown when I picked him up.he was low down in an LPS system under lighting which I felt was too high but had been there for a fairly long time.no other signs of anything wrong that I've noticed e.g pests

It is taking everything in me to leave this alone. It almost feels like a trap.
