I'm thinking about going with an SR 120 as an intermediate step before building a 10x3x2' tank. I have a few IM AIO's already but I'm looking for feedback on this build from anyone that has a large AIO.

Prospective equipment so far:

2x ATI Straton X
2x Nature Dimensions filter rollers
2x Tunze 9004 DC skimmers
Inkbird Controller
2x 500w Titanium heating elements
2x Jebao Gyres
2-3 AI Nero 5
120 lbs Tropic Eden Mesoflakes
120 lbs Tropic Eden Morocca rock - I only used 22 lbs in my 50 Lagoon so it's too much but I don't mind having extra for other tanks
10 gal. Bashsea ATO resevoir
Tunze Osmolator ATO
Maybe a Planck and inD aF4 feeder

It will be for smaller tangs and angels that will eventually move to the larger tank. I'm not an SPS guy so mostly softies and LPS would go in this tank.

I'm really looking for thoughts on skimmers, UV, feeders and lids. I'm trying to keep a fairly streamlined look and any suggestions are appreciated.

This is looking good! Have you looked into Simplicity and Reef Octo skimmers?
Do you have any thoughts on the RO Classic 2000 HOB? I have an AquaReady 1.5 on my 50 and it works great but it’s loud so I don’t really want another one. My other thought was to plumb a Bashsea or RO skimmer externally but I think that’s probably overkill.

I have a custom AIO that is based on the SR80 but with some modification. One of the Mods is that my filtration area is 8" wide. I specifically did that so I could use full sized equipment. I would measure the opening and see if something like a Simplicity DC120 skimmer will fit. If it does that would be a good choice. If not then you are left to choose among the skimmers made for Nano tanks or HOB. I believe @tharbin uses a Tunze DC 9004 on his tank, which is similar to mine, and he might have some thoughts on how it's working out.

I use the Tunze 9004 DC in both my 40 Breeder and the Lagoon 100. It is just barely big enough for the 100. The size is great though. I think for a 120 I would opt for the 9012 DC, pricey but a really good smallish skimmer. It's basically a taller, more powerful 9004 DC. All the Tunze skimmers I've used are great skimmers that require very little tuning or maintenance.

--edit--
I just went back and noticed you were saying 2 9004 DCs I think that would be fine but a 9012 DC is probably a better fit. It's only a little more than 2 9004 DCs and it's easier to maintain one skimmer than two.

Thanks for the reply. I said two 9004’s because I read that they didn’t really fit very well. The 9012 was my original idea so if it fits I’ll be happy. I’m going to look into it more.

I wish the rear chamber was a couple inches deeper, it would certainly make things easier. Your layout sounds great but if I go custom it’s going to be for the big tank but that space would be awesome.

It really is like having a full sump behind the tank without the plumbing.
