Those of you with big tanks, 8’ or more in length in the 300-500g range, what are you doing for a stand? I have historically always made my own from 2x4 but never over a 6x2 footprint. I feel like 8 feet or more pushes into metal territory. I’ve never used 80/20 but I wonder if something like that is a DIY option.

I would price out the tenacor T slot stands that would give you an idea of price and what profile to use for X size tank.
then you can price around for aluminum extrusions.
But that is going to be a lot more then a wood stand. prob 2-3X the price or more.

if you go wood just bump it up to 2x6 or even 2x8 for long runs.
I am sure you have seen rocket engineers wood stand template? if not search around for it. a properly built wood stand can hold a 300-500 no problem. it's just need to be build right.

my problem with DIY wood stands that I have made is finishing them out w/ doors and what not. I am not a finish carpenter so they always came out look OK but not a finished center piece look if you know what I mean.

I was looking at a 300 from GC but the stand was going to be way more than the tank. so I had to down size for a 200/275 with a metal stand from IM.

every area gonna be different. but price out a welded stand to..
