Was thing of getting a new tank and it would only be 18" tall, is it worth it since its shallow?

clarity yes. overall IMHO no.

As mentioned in another thread on this topic, depends on what's important to you, and the glass thickness. If its 0.25", might not be too noticeable, but anything over that especially 3/8 or 1/2 and the difference is huge.
