So I have a couple spots on my rock that are red and stringy and was wondering if it was the start of cyano or something bad??

It may be cyano but that is not a problem. Cyano comes and goes and unless it covers your corals, don't worry about it. I have more than that in my reef at the moment and my tank is very old.
