Just moved from Texas to Washington and had to leave our big tank behind. My wife and I are in reef withdrawal so we decided to setup a nano tank. We had an unopened Fluval Flex 15g tank in our garage so we are converting that over to salt.

I know I am upgrading the pump, the media and filter chamber and probably adding a nano skimmer to the back chamber. I am undecided with how to proceed with lighting, however.

We need to keep the lid on the tank as we are going to add a goby to the tank and I have had issues with them leaping out of uncovered tanks to their deaths. My initial plan is to remove the stock light from the lid, cut a square hole into the lid and place an AI Prime HD into the lid. I figure I can use some combination of marine silicone and plastic or egg-crate to attach the Prime securely into the lid so there is no fear of it falling into the water and so it looks nice on the outside as well.

Has anyone tried this or something similar? Advice would be great!

Right now, I have the tank setup and cycling while I get the new pump, skimmer, media and light. We just got the rockscape done and I think I am pretty satisfied with that but would love some constructive criticism or advice with that as well.

Ah the fluval flex. I need to see one of these in person because i feel like getting pictures doesn't show what it actually looks like. If I remember the flex has a fluval aquasky as a light which is decent for low light corals and thats about it. Its fairly easy to epoxy it to the plastic you just need to be sure the epoxy is water resistant, reef safe, and is actually strong enough. But I do believe there is plenty of room to epoxy a different light underneath. JB waterweld should be strong enough to hold it while being water resistant and reef safe

This is a relatively new tank by fluval so not a lot of people have them, so people being able to help you out on this forum will be pretty scarce. I look forward to some update photos.

Egg creat will work for what you are doing, but I would think more about 1/4 inch plexiglass. Light and egg creat will cause unwanted shadows in your tank if it gets in the way of the lights.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
