Hi all,

I already have a 40 gallon aio with 2 clowns a blenny and a shrimp goby pair. I want a nano reef though with just two clowns and a bunch of anemones. I was thinking take 10 gallons from my current 40 gallon during a water change, and put some of the live rock i currently have in my tank as well as some new live rock in with new sand. Will that work and be the quickest way to start things up?
Thanks in advance!

10g isn't enough for clowns imo. Especially if you plan on adding a "bunch" of anything. They're recommended for 20g+

if I were to still do it without clowns would that method work?
The rock is what makes the basis for tank age with the sand adding a little. If you transfer the rocks it will definitely be a head start.
