I had a reef tanks with DSB and plenum and weekly stirrings of only the upper layers for over twenty years with not problems. Dr Jaubert lectured at the Las Vegas MACNA of 2018. He stated that his use of a plenum was an accident. He added a DSB to a tank that had an existing under gravel filter. He still recommends DSB but no longer recommends a plenum
