Calling all divers, snorkelers and coral reef enthusiasts! Join us for a free 2.5 hour stony coral identification class on October 15 or 17, 2013. The classes will be held in Miami-Dade County at the Coral Reef Conservation Program office at 1277 NE 79th Street Causeway, Miami, FL 33138. Space is limited, so reserve your spot early by sending a RSVP with your preferred date to [email protected].
Unfortunately, this class is not offered in Broward, Palm Beach or Martin counties at this time. However, there may be eager interested folks who might be willing to lead this class in those areas. Please let us know if you'd be interested in offering this to dive clubs, groups and other interested parties in your county.
Stony Coral Identification:
Tuesday, October 15 (6-9pm)

Thursday, October 17 (1-4pm)
DESCRIPTION: This course will introduce you to thirty species of stony corals found offshore of southeast Florida from Miami-Dade through Martin counties (the northern third of the Florida Reef Tract). A brief (anonymous) written evaluation will be given at the end of the class and all participants will receive a copy of the training documents for future reference. Latin or common names may be used throughout. You CAN learn to identify thirty coral species in under three hours, as average scores in recent years have ranged from 80-100%. This class is intended for adults, but is also appropriate for young budding marine biologists ages twelve and up.
