Hello Reefers,

As a long-time hobbyist, I’ve spent the last year obsessing over a problem we all hate: trying to catch an aggressive bully, sick fish, or peckish coral-eater in our reef tanks without tearing down our rockwork/corals and stressing everybody out.

I’ve tried all the traditional traps in the market where you have to acclimatise the trap over days, then forced to sit and wait for hours holding a string, waiting and hoping the right fish enters the trap. Or worse, you end up tearing down your rockwork and lowering the water level, just to chase the fish around with cumbersome nets.

There had to be another way, and after months of research and testing in my own tank, I finally found it - And I am thrilled to share it with the global reefing community.

I designed a behavior-based solution, the FITC AquaCove ("Fish In The C"), which works with the fish, not against them. Instead of passive trapping, this is a precision active capture solution which utilises specialised geometry that taps into a fish's natural instincts to seek cover in a cave or attraction to its own mirror image, allowing you to safely shepherd the targeted fish swiftly, with zero acclimatisation, zero reef disruption, and less stress for fish and hobbyist alike.

But don’t take my word for it—the proof is in the catch. Here’s a video of how I caught my Miniatus Grouper who was being overly aggressive with my other fish and you can see more of the other fish caught with the FITC AquaCove at the website here: fishinthec.sg and our socials below.

I turned this passion project into a real startup, FITC Aquatics, and our systems are officially live and shipping! To celebrate our launch, the wonderful R2R community here can use promo code R2R-100 at checkout for 10% off your purchase, limited to the first 100 redemptions!

Reef2Reef has always been such a great help and resource to my reefing journey and now I hope I can play my part to contribute back to the community with the FITC AquaCove (Patent Pending). It certainly has helped me, and I am confident it will help you all too. I’ll be actively monitoring this thread to answer your questions, and welcome any feedback to improve the design for future production runs. Thank you all for the support!

Wow these look really cool!

I love how it mimics a cave and causes the fish to seek shelter which reduces the waiting time. 💪

I just figured, since the fish are so good at darting under rocks whenever we try to catch them, why not let them dart right into where we want them ✌🏻

Wow, this trap is awesome! Wishing you guys the best!
