Hi everyone!
I have a Waterbox AIO 20 and it's been up for about a year (transferred from another tank that was about a year old, so the system is about two years old). Anyway, I started the the tank with the dry rock I ordered on BRS, but about 6mo ago I swapped out maybe half the rock with some newer CaribSea Life Rock. I'd say about half the rock is two years old and half is the newer rock. At some point in the last few months some bubble algae made it into my tank...ugh. But here's the odd part--it's ONLY on the Life Rock pieces. The rocks are all mixed up with each other so I don't think it's that the algae hasn't spread yet--there's something it likes about the LifeRock that it doesn't like about the other rock.
For now I'm doing manual removal and keeping an eye on tanks params, but it's pretty aggressive. I'm thinking about taking out the LifeRock and putting in some dry rock. I'm not so much looking for a solution but can't help but wonder if anyone else has had similar experience
I don't think it came on the LifeRock, but there's just something about it that the BA likes. In 30 years of reefkeeping this is one of the weirdest things I've had happen. Go figure!
