Submersible UV sterilizers

Thinking about getting a submersible UV. Tank is 60 gallons. Any recommendations or suggestions?

I have never heard good things about submersible lights in general, as they tend to eventually leak or float, and the bulbs in UV need replacement (out of water ops) every year. Not to talk bad about a possible selection, but do you have a link to one of these submersible UV's that we could look at what is being offered?

I'm thinking about installin a pond in my backyard, still in investigation stages and I can't imaging I would want a UV submerged for any length of time?. Thanks

I only run them for QT tanks. Kills bad things in the water and gives extra high flow for surface agitation. Other wise hard pipe in a sump system or an out of tank with an intake type pump if possible that can push water out into an external UV unit.


Is your system a sump or aio?

I actually run mine unsubmersed. I’m sure it has killed some bad guys. Just don’t see any added clarity - given what it’s called.

oK, Except not enough wattage to be useful for ich control, to my understanding. The ability to "sterilize" the water, not simply "clarify" is the only reason I would add a UV to a salt tank. In fresh water they are used to clarify water (by killing algae) and in all applications you need enough watts to kill the target organism. These smaller wattage units don't have enough killing power to accomplish much.

Sump. Want it for dinos and algae that I have to clean my glass everyday.
Was not thinking I want to run for extended periods just to get control of my present issues.

I’m out of town now. It’s got a skimmer and heater with return pump.
