After a year, my fine, white aragonite sand had become littered with ugly bits of brownish calcareous material. Maybe stuff always in the sand tank getting a coating of living stuff, little shells, bits of rock...whatever. Anyhow it looked awful. So I siphoned out the top layer of my substrate and screened it. Looks much better! Pics are of the stuff I screened out, the sand that made it through the screen (which I’ll put back), and the substrate now. Probably needs another round of siphoning.
