Hey guys,
I'm planning on keeping some Engineer Gobies but what to get the substrate depth right.
Any ideas on maybe an ideal sand bed depth for them?
Thanks,

2-3" works. Make sure all your rocks are grounded on the bottom.
What do you mean when you say "grounded. Getting ready to scape my new 6x2x2 and was planning on putting the sawed flat Marco Rocks base rock directly on the glass and then adding sand. Then the guys from LFS who set up the tank said sand first. Should have quized them more or asked them "even with the sawed flat base rock?

While rinsing the rock last night I noted the numerous gaps in the bottom of the rock. So now leaning toward maybe 1/2" under the rock and wiggle the rock into the sand a bit.

Thoughts?

All rocks should have contact with the bottom then add sand around them.
The flat rock being buried is just an extention of the bottom.
The reason you want contact is so no rocks fall when the goby engineers under the rock.
My current pair remove all the sand and push it up the front glass.
Once a week I put it back and they repeat.
