I'm in the process of setting up a 28 gallon jbj cube. In it is 50 pounds of live aragonite sand and roughly 25 pounds of cured live rock.

A couple days ago I bought a nano sized Aquatop powerhead for added water movement. When I plugged it in there was an instant sandstorm! Suddenly it became obvious to me that fine sand wasn't a good idea.

I set up the tank less than a week ago. Would topping the fine sand with something a bit courser be okay at this point? Would 60 pounds of sand be overkill? Lol! The sand is currently about 2.5 inches deep.

Thanks for any replies!

It would just make your substrate a Deep Sand Bed. As the finer sand would settle to the bottom over time anyway, your safe adding to the system.
