Hey everyone!,
Well, I don't know about you, but I'm hot! And so is my tank! I live in an apartment and can't have an AC, and I don't have the space or money for a chiller:( anyone out there in the same boat? What are you doing to keep your reef cool? :)

Blow a fan across the surface of the tank water. Make sure you have a ATO unit since evap is how it works to cool the tank. I can cool my tank 4 degrees easily that way but top off water amounts triple.

I have a fan in my sump aiming at the water. Hooked up to my reefkeeper to come on at 81 degrees. Once again space is a factor, no room for an ATO:/

Why cant tou get an AC? You know they sell the in house ones right? The one that stays in the house instead of been the ones on the windows. I think they are cheaper too.
A fan will not help much if the air is already hot.
Freeze some bottles of 2liters containers and place it in the tank when its too hot. I use to have the same problem. The frozen bottles helped a lot. Now my tank its in the basement. Much better but still gets to 79 sometimes.

Yeah, I've been trying to find a cheap "in house" AC. I might have found one today. Until then I'm using dry ice and fans! Haha

Im in the same exact situation. I live in San Diego and it gets hot over here. I try to keep the ac on to keep the house cool but running it all day until summer is over would just be too expensive. I use a tall fan to blow air around my tank but it doesnt seem to do much. Its an 8 gallon nano so water evaporation is crazy. I have to top it off every two days. Maybe even everyday. Literally. Fish and corals seem to be ok tho. Although i did notice i started to grow some green hair algae. I wonder if it is the high water temp. I would say freeze some water bottles or even better if you can get some ice pack. And put them in your sump. I have thought about a DIY chiller. And maybe you can buy a big and cheap hang on back filter and hang it on your tank. Instead of putting filter media in it put some ice pack or something in it so all the water can flow through it. But you have a sump. So i guess itll do the same job. Hope it helped :D
