Sump Area Lighting

What are folks using to light the inside area of the sump when you need to work in that area? I am thinking some under cabinet LED lights might be okay but worried that they won't stand up to the environment inside the sump area very well. I have found some IP66 rated 2' shop lights but the beam spread might be too narrow as they are designed to be ceiling lights.

Cabinet is 36x18x36 from Glass Cages. Waiting on delivery.

I picked up a $20 light from Lowes or Home depot, cant remember which one. its a plug in and has high/low switch.

I got something similar to the above from home depot, its been in my cabinet for almost 5 years now and no rust.

I went more elaborate (and more expensive - this cost a few hundred bucks!).

I bought these water resistant LED strips (12V, 200 lumens, 3000K) from a local lighting shop; they ordered them in the lengths I wanted with the wire lengths I needed pre-installed in the strips so I didn't have to buy a full spool. I needed 3 LED strips because of the way my Glass Cages stand was configured inside. I also got a 12V power supply and 45 degree aluminum channel with frosted lens and end caps from the same company.

I also bought this "weatherproof" on/off and rotary dimmer switch (according to an email from the manufacturer "we'd formally rate these IP54, but they would likely perform fine in IP65 environments") and these magnetic switches for the doors.

It was a cumbersome installation but I really like the way it came out! Its only been up and running a couple months but should last a long time!

Having said all that, your IP66 shop lights should be fine. I wouldn't worry about the light spread, just getting some light in there should be all you need. If you can you might want to wait until you receive your new stand so you can make sure you get a fixture that fits well inside it.

I put these under my stand. They’re plenty bright, and I use a 12V output on my Hydros along with a button box on the 0-10V to turn them on/off. They work great so far.

I installed some motion detecting lights that i had in my sump cabinet which were awesome, until the night the velcro came off the light which fell into my sump leeching battery chemicals overnight. Fortunately i was able to triage and i didnt lose anything (its been 2 months) but who knows long-term. Learn from my error, overly secure the heck out of anything you put in there!!!
