Just begun the sump up grade and the new sumps are equipped with the baffle as the last stage before the return. Its about 1.75" X 4" between the shelves in my sump anyway and there is the course black pad which I think has a nice baffle which sits at the top shelve. Do reefers put something other than another pad on the lower shelf at the bottom of the baffle, like a bio ceramic type of media, maybe something you don't maintenance very often or even rock?
Thank you

No not really.
A black stiff sponge sometimes.
The last stage is what we call a bubble trap, as bubbles will stop there before they go down and get sucked up by your return pump.

You know;
I'm thinking of putting the black filter on the bottom shelf at or just below water level because I don't think it would be advantageous to put it above the water level. And on the top a floss like pad, keeping it simple. I am hoping to find precut media. Going for return pump protection.
I like the heater idea.

A pic would be great. If it's what I'm thinking, that's where I put media like chemipure elite and purigen.
