I would like some ideas on how to set up a sump maximizing a fuge. Tank is a deep blue 80 gallon shallow, with the series 1 stand. I was going to use a 30 long for a sump. Plan was to have the sump set up Skimmer left, return middle and fuge right. Was going to split the drain, have 80% go to skimmer/filter sock and the other 20% go to fuge. I plan on using a mag9.5 return pump in hopes of having a manifold to run carbon/gfo reactors and whatever else.

Besides the DT the fuge is my absolute favorite part of the tank...I'm almost contemplating a separate tank for the Refugium if I can do it properly.

Please let me know your ideas and share pictures if you can.

Thanks,

Mike

I have a similar arrangement of compartments in my 40B sump. I already had two lines feeding the sump from a 1500 gph Glass-Holes overflow. Although valved, I run the valves wide open so that half the water goes to the sock/skimmer section while the remaining half goes to the refugium. I also run a MAG 9.5 as a return but also have an MJ1200 for a BRS dual reactor. I eventually would like to add a manifold. Oh, and the DT is a five foot 90 gallon.

That's what I'm looking to do...I may try and fit a 40B under the tank...just don't want to consume all the space.

Thanks a lot for the post and picture!

Holy Moly!! That's serious...would love to do something like that!

I love my upper refugium. It runs off of a maxijet600 in my left overflow. Return is in the center and the right overflow is a backup drain. I have run macro, but right now I am keeping acans, yellow polyps, GSP, Blue anthelia, and an alveopora frag. It is lit with an old viper 70 but I want to upgrade to LEDs.

I really like that but I don't think it would look right over a rimless tank...

That was my first attempt. It turned out functionally awesome but looked kind of ghetto. I learned a great deal and my next tank will have one but it will be a cleaner design.
