So here is my sump design. I was wondering if i should remove one part where the circled arrow is. The reason I have the first baffle setup like that is to keep organics in the first chamber because they collect at the surface. I will be surface skimming in the first chamber. I think putting the 3rd baffle like that will help circulation in the ref chamber. Thanks

Yea, i mean basically all that baffle does is force the water from the bottom of the REF chamber to the top, vs if you remove it, the water technically doesn't have to hit bottom, it could cruise right across the top of that chamber. You could probably remove it if you wanted, but we're only seeing the side view of the sump; i'm guessing your filter socks don't span the entire width since you have skimmer and heater in the same place...

Well, just consider that removing that third baffle or making it only a few inches high may effect your sand bed. depends really on the flow rate in your sump. my high third baffle lets my cheato tumble gently and doesn't kick up any sand.
