So as I am laying out my design for my sump I keep coming back to the same question... What to use for filtration. Some people say filter socks and some people are adamantly against them. So my question is this.. What do you think I should use for filtration? My sump is gonna be a simple design mind you... it is only incoming lines from overflow box then over a baffle to a compartment where my skimmer is and then over/under bubble traps to a compartment where my return pump sends it back to the tank. That's it, nice and simple and clean. Now I just need to work out the fitration to put into the incoming water compartment. As always guys thank you so much for tips and advice.

But do I need to run a carbon bag in there also or a filter sponge? Anything of that nature..
IMO no. the carbon I put in a bag next to the Pump(sometimes ON the inlet) you can do the same with floss or a sponge too. Kinda depends on whats going on.
So you can have a sock coming in, and floss or sponge to polish going out. or none of the above.

Definitely google sumps in google image, and Melev has really good info too. IMO there's few hard and fast rules.
