I have a 50 gallon cube that needed the return pump replaced. I bought a Sicce 4.0 (951gph) because I've been reading that more current in the tank is better not realizing that terminology didn't refer to current produced by the sump return. I hooked up the new pump and my reef was very loud and resembled a whirlpool. I turned the pump adjustment all the way down and it runs ok but still very loud (don't think my drain can keep up). I cannot return the pump so I'd like to know if it will hurt the pump to put a valve inline to restrict the flow down to 25% or should I just bite the bullet and get a smaller one? It's my understanding now that 300gph should be max for my tank. I have a skimmer and refugium in my sump so maybe even 200gph would be better. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated. Lance

Thank you so much! This is great news! I love this pump (very quiet) but way too much output for my tank. What type of valve would you recommend for the output line (e.g., ball, gate, needle)?

and fwiw, I like the black handle valves at Lowes. They usually are easier to turn than the red ones.
I test out every one and find the easiest one to turn.
