sump question

I have a percision marine 30g sump can I put the return pump and skimmer in the same section of the sump? The sump is drilled for a external pump which I have but it is drilled on the front and do to space in the stand I don't think I will be able to run it the way it is meant. the skimmer is a ER cs8-1 if that will help anybody with a comment on what you think I need to do.
