Can someone help me out with this sump? I got it for free and want to use it. Don't really understand it too much. All the way to the left I'm assuming would be where the skimmer goes?

Well being as it appears that your returns are on the left, and the bigger chamber on the right, I'd say correct, your skimmer would go in the left chamber, and use the right chambe for macro algae.
Or
You use the right chamber to keep all your equipment and you can also put the skimmer there. Up to you.
If you look closely at the right chamber, its missing the egg crate that would have held the bio balls, that are no longer there. the chamber on the left is drilled and has the outlets for the return pipes. You can put the skimmer on the right, pointing the pump intake away from the water flow from the tank, and the bubbles, or you install a sponge to catch the water coming into the sump so there are no bubbles.isn't the chamber to the right of the return area a bubble catch? If this skimmer goes in the left, first where would you put the return pump and second what would catch the microbubbles that are going to come from the skimmer?
I know the right side is for the media. Which was bio balls but could be anything. your explanation seems to describe how to keep bubbles out of the skimmer. What I'm concerned about is bubbles getting returned to the display tank. Which is why I suggested putting the skimmer on the right and not on the left with the return pump. possibly something is getting lost in translation here. If that is the case I apologizeIf you look closely at the right chamber, its missing the egg crate that would have held the bio balls, that are no longer there. the chamber on the left is drilled and has the outlets for the return pipes. if the skimmer is in the left chamber has this suggests, and the return is also the left chamber as we can see. The skimmer will let out microbubbles and the return will suck them in and push them into the display. The center/ left chamber is designed to catch these bubbles as they travel from right to left. So the skimmer which will exude micro bubbles should be on the right. As the water travels left to the return, the catch will eliminate them so they are not pushed up top to display.
