Thanks, using that formula sump is only 35 gal but website has 39 gal. Seems to common error on sump vol across the board. Would like to squeeze 39 gallons into a 35 gallon sump but should be corrected or let me know if I am in error

With those dimmentions (34x15x15) i believe that sump is only 33-34 gallons. Maybe even less since the glass thickness takes away some water too. My sump is the same size ( synergy ss-34)

The Triton version is 16” wife, checked multiple vendors and errors were across the board
Weird... every place i checked had those dimmentions. Even bulk reef and iv never gotten anything from them that was wrong. Not sure then.

Remember, the (LxWxH)/231 formula is for tank volume... sumps are never filled to the top, so you must take that into consideration when calculating true sump volume.

I've noticed that sump vendors seem to use total volume for their sumps. I think they should also give max in use volume (the volume when filled that doesn't overflow baffles and has the return chamber at a reasonable level). This would allow someone to calculate how much backflow a sump is designed to handle when the return goes off.

My trigger 20c states 24.3g which is correct based on its dimensions (they even took into account wall thickness, but not internal baffles)

If I fill the sump so the return section is maxed then it is only 15.6g tht is usable during normal operations leaving 8.6 gallons for water returning when the pump stops

Hey, they probably didn't use US or Imperial gallons but Sump gallons. ;) You can squeeze in a few extra of those babies.

Dang metric system I agree on full disclosure on volume. I took both gross area and also subtracted thickness and it’s way off

trying to figure out sump vol of triton 34? L x w x h /231 ?

The TS 34 is actually 34 x 16 x 16, so Length (Inside dimensions which subtract wall thickness) 33.5 x Width ( again inside dimensions) 15.5 x Height (inside dimensions) 15.5 Total volume is 34.8 U.S. gallons We use the inside dimensions for our calculations.
