Guys building a sump where would I place baffles

depends on your requirements. Do you need a skimmer compartment? Where is the skimmer going? Do you want a fuge? How large of a return area do you need? Where will your heaters go? What about drains? Do you need room for ATO float switch, dosing tube holder? Figure all this out then you should be able to start designing your sump..

so, heres some more questions for you to answer. What compartment would your skimmer go in? Are you gonna build a stand for your skimmer? How tall is your return pump and how much water does it need in it's compartment? Where will your float switch sit for the ATO?

and on baffles, always, go from tallest being first to shortest being last.

I'm yet to buy skimmer and return pump but know which I'm getting. I want some sort of filter media in first chamber then live rock then skimmer then return pump. Skimmer will be last with pump .

I wouldn't put the skimmer with your return pump, you will get microbubbles and the fluctuation of water height will cause inefficiencies in your skimmer performance.

Unless you have "some way" of stopping micro-bubbles from entering the DT from the skimmer drain, I would not do this.

So if your willing to put your skimmer on a stand then height doesn't matter. The only thing that comes into play then is do you have enough space in your sump for the excess water to drain back down from the display.

Your last "baffle" should be lower then the the predecessor.

Yes, if it is rated for the net water volume you have.

Not sure what you mean? If you mean your skimmer, then you can hang it anywhere, right? I've never used a HOB.
