Suspending the hobby

Due to personal circumstances, I have the need to no longer have a tank to maintain for about 6 months at which point I get to go out and start all over again. I am looking for suggestion on how to let people know that I have a full tank setup that I want to sell. I have talked to my local fish store who was not interested and would not even let me post it in their bulletin board. I put it on Craig's list but there has been no interest at all.

I would rather sell it as a package deal instead of piece mealing it out.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best place to advertise?

Full setups are tough to sell because you have already stocked it with what YOU want. Good luck with selling it! You may just have to part it out, livestock first.

you basically have to just take a low ball to get rid of it all at once or piece it out.

You could probably sell that setup for $200-250 here on craigslist.

Craigslist has always worked for me (buying and selling) but I bet different areas have different results. You might get more parting things out. I often see setups that have fish or corals that I'd buy but I don't need everything else. What are the odds of finding someone else that wants exactly what you have?

Agree with others tough to sell as complete running setup unless you find that perfect someone.
Sell the fish then Rock etc etc you will end up with more for it in the long run generally. Live Rock at even 2.50 3.00 a lbs will generally go very fast.
People are more willing to take an empty cleaned tank than a full setup stocked as it adds more complexity to a purchase and move.
That looks like a very nice tank and stand. Include the return pump, sump and sell off everything else.

I bought a 220g thru Craigslist and then sold it at a profit by parting out all the components (old sand, live rock, tank and stand, lights, sump, etc.). Have also purchased the majority of my equipment thru Craigslist, including a 300g tank.

I don't buy livestock from an owner that is leaving the hobby...as I'm concerned about the possibility of introducing some kind of pest or disease into my tank (which may be the underlying issue that is causing them to leave to hobby). Not saying this is the case with you, but I'm leery about livestock for this reason. Equipment I'll take all day long...so part away!

Where are you located? I'm in Pensacola fl if your close I'd buy live stock and say to hold off in selling the tank and accessories to save money when your ready to get back in to it. Good luck with whatever is happening to make you get out for a few months. I
