Anybody have experience with these guys? Are they reef safe in your opinion? clam nippers?

i used to have one, they are in the genus genicanthus and totally reef safe, they are planktivores and feed out of the water column

I have a pair of these (Lamarcks) and they are model citizens. No nipping at coral and they get along with everyone. Planktavores they are.
