Switching from freshwater

Hey I have a standard 10g not a cube how should I stock it I have pretty good filtration and will be using tap water for now will switch to rodi eventually what should I put in it and what clean up crew should I add I’m trying to have the tank look almost spotless I have a seachem tidal 35 for filtration

What type of lighting do you have? Any idea about the light intensity? Having a spotless saltwater aquarium is a difficult goal to achieve, especially for the first one.

Don’t even bother starting it unless you use Rodi. Tap water will ruin your party, guaranteed.

Buy saltwater from your local store and start your cycle. Put in whatever you like as long as you have the lighting, follow and stability to support it.

Good luck, don’t rush anything, and don’t cut corners.

Find a new LFS.

water is the life blood of our reef tanks, and almost everyone here thinks a RODI system is mandatory equipment.

saltwater is completely different than freshwater, its much more complex, don't depend on your freshwater knowledge to help you. Stocking and filtration are completely different.

There are very few fish that can rightfully fit into a 10 gallon, consider going with at least a 20 gallon to start...

I suggest finding a local reef only shop to talk to, and start with a larger tank than 10 gallons.

Buy your saltwater from a local reef only shop, start very slow, and keep the 1 small fish per 10 gallon rule in mind. Your 10 gallon is good for a goby, maybe a single clown.

I use a plant light for Xenia and a Rhodactis, but not much else.
