Tank setup is waterbox marinex

Currently i am using nyos quantum skimmer but I've had my ups and downs with the tank.

Now that I have moved in with my gf and aquarium seems to be pretty stable i am still not quite able to tune the skimmer

I am very much considering just calling the shot and getting the deltec skimmers

Recently I've switched salt to AF hybrid salt and teying to do their probiotic methodology

I've had my Nyos skimmer for bit over one year..

What are your thoughts on deltec and the idea in general. I plan to stock it up a bit with corals once I see some good deals around the holiday season and anything I like at my LFS

I'm sure that is frustrating - the NYOS should be able to be dialed in. That said, the Deltec is a great skimmer! Good luck with whatever you choose.

Deltec is a long time high quality German brand. You can’t go wrong with the Deltec. Long term though parts could be a little more challenging to obtain should you need them.

If you aren’t in a rush, you may want to wait a few months until AuquaForest releases their all-in-skim models

They look intriguing.

I ended up getting deltec. It arrived sunday and still breaking in. But man what a difference in how silent it runs compared to Nyos constant hum and vibration is day and night

What’s the quality/feel of the deltec? Is the acrylic thick and hefty feeling?

Yes very hefty solid feels like a machine. Very easy seetup. Came pre-assembled so no shenanigans putting it together. Already stuff in the cup when it is still breaking in.

Feels like a premium product for sure. Super solid. I am very happy so far!

What i do like is seeing the water level raise of fall in the adjuster tube. No guessing what happens

I expected it to be of good quality but have never seen one in person to confirm.

Thanks.

Hi myself decided to go with the Deltec 600i
I have a reef octopus classic 150 right now that’s very hard to dial in cause there’s really not much control. The only control I have is to move it up and down as far as physically.

Mine is due to come in tomorrow. I will set it up and see how it goes, but I also was thinking about going with the Nyos 160 but decided to go with the Deltec

Justed wanted to throw this out there for consideration. Do not let the entry price scare you. Skimmers are not something that one needs to buy or upgrade when properly sized and purchased. In short, do the homework and buy once. Don't let the price steer your decision.

Also worth noting that you can buy something a bit larger and follow your reefing journey should you upgrade. You can alternate days of week to run them, lower the power of the pump, turn over rate, etc. I mean seriously, skimmer tech isn't something that is evolving.

TL; DR - consider them an investment.

Also thinking of Deltec HOB skimmer. Found this thread here, so thank you! I tried a reef octopus and it severely over flowed. The Deltec HOB feeds back into the tank to avoid any flooding when overflowing. I had a eshopps hob skimmer that died from lack of maintenance on my part. That was a hard lesson! LOL. I will likely order one soon and report back.

I replay this in my head whenever I have to buy something for my tank. Haha!! Great point!!
