I was surfing around the net today and ran across this video:

He is talking specifically about shop lighting and not aquarium lighting, but I was wondering if this would be feasible for an aquarium. What he has done is bought low end T12 fixtures with magnetic ballasts and replaced them with more efficient electronic ballasts. By upgrading to electronic ballasts the T8 bulbs can output 96 Lumens/watt compared to T5 bulbs at 98 Lumens/watt. Not only would this be a more budget friendly fixture replacement bulbs would be less expensive. The only question is do they make T8 bulbs in the spectrum required for reefers?
