Talk me into upgrading my tank

I have a 90g that is over a year old. I have stopped killing every acro on sight and even have some modest SPS growth. Even my wife says my tank "is on autopilot" which means I am doing much less to keep it up (I stopped chasing my tail) or I'm much better at hiding the maintenance I am doing (lol). Overall, I would say, great success.

I want more fish, specifically Tangs, anthias.
I have room for a bigger tank where the current tank is (~200g).

Obviously this is the move. You are reefers. You will endorse this plan.

I am trying to talk myself into the upgrade. Taking all the rock and fish out. Housing them temporarily (in plastic tubs?) while I break down the 90 and move something much larger into place. Moving all this equipment will require friends. And, idk, a full weekend with no toddlers trying to "help" dad. And then I need to figure out what to do / how to store / where to keep the 90g.

God help me. That sounds like too much work.

That’s no that easy, but not impossible, you have to prepare your system for that… the most important is to keep your life bacteria safe and secured, that’s the guarantee your creatures will stay alive and in the most similar conditions as they are now, live rock and ceramic bricks of the sump have to be storage in containers with circulation (wave maker or similar) and heater (no bubblers)… Do not keep the fish and inverts with live rock or ceramics during the process, don’t feed the fish during the process, keep those containers with lid,fish under stress tend to jump. temp and oxigen are crucial (for fish and inverts you can use bubblers the strongest the better) Discard you sand, if you try to use the same sand the probability to fail is really high. After you finish the process add cycling bacteria to your system like “turbo start” (Fritz) or “one and only” dr Tim, “microbacter7 cocking” Brightwell….

Why do you need us to convince you?

If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. Upgrading is a lot of work and I think you should only do it if you are foaming at the mouth to do it and do all the work.

Moving from one tank to another is possible but not recommended. Ideally you want two established tanks and then slowly move corals and fish. But good luck

I'd get a 200g and put it in a new room of the house and have two tanks going at the same time! That way you don't have the hassle of moving everything AND you can get new and exciting things! Win/win
